Is a new employee joining the team? To give new employees the best possible welcome, prepare their workplace and offer them a comprehensive presentation of the company. The goal is to make the new employee feel at home from day one.
Provide a comfortable workplace
First and foremost, think practically by providing a convenient and well-equipped workspace.
To do this, start by ensuring that the future desk is empty and free of personal items. Check the operation of the equipment so that the new employee can work in good conditions: computer, telephone line, internet connection... Depending on the company's infrastructure, why not also order a badge and reserve a parking space for the new employee? This is often appreciated by newcomers... Little extras: prepare some essential office supplies such as pens, a notepad and a notebook.
Inform colleagues of the new colleague's arrival
Inform the team a couple of days before the big day, if possible verbally, that the new colleague will be arriving. To avoid ambiguities, his or her function and role should be specified. An email or an announcement on the intranet will be useful to inform the other employees.
Does the recruitment concern an important position, a permanent contract or a long-term assignment? Think about adding the name of the future employee to the organisation chart on the intranet and, if necessary, on the company's internet site. A simple way to take the first step!
Take your time to welcome the new employee
This is the moment, your new employee is here! The first day usually starts with a presentation to the team, followed by a tour of the company and an explanation of its operations and values.
Give the new employee some time to settle into the office and show him/her how all the equipment works. Reassure the newcomer by offering to answer any questions he or she may have.
Good to know
Does your company have a welcome booklet? Do not hesitate to give it to the new employee. This will allow him/her to become familiar with practical information about your company: access plan, opening hours, telephone list, etc.
