Experts agree that a sit-stand desk is great for tackling back pain and counteracting the immobility of computer workers. Bingo. I have back pain and I work behind a screen. So I tested a sit-stand desk for 5 days and these are my experiences.
The discovery
How different is office life when viewed from above! At first, I was a little out of step with my colleagues (I am the only one standing upright in the open space), but as the days went by, I got used to it. Changing position is carried out with an electric button: one arrow up and one arrow down, oef ... no instructions needed. The desk is sturdy and even at height it is very stable. In theory, it is advisable to stand up for 15 minutes every hour. But the first few days I played with the button, without really respecting the instructions (my rebellious side), to try out what felt better, sitting or standing, depending on what I was doing ...
The learning process
After a few days of trying it out, I am starting to get the hang of it. In the morning, I like to start my day by standing and reading all the e-mails that I have received during the evening or night, with a good coffee, madeleines with chocolate, two or three sandwiches, a clementine ... When everything is digested - I am talking about the e-mails - I start working on the substance issues. In general, I feel more comfortable sitting down to write articles, prepare presentations, etc. On the other hand, I do like to stand up to do web searches, monitoring, a tour of the company's social networks ... The only problem is that I dance quite easily, so when I listen to music and stand up... it's kind of embarrassing.
The verdict
The test has been somewhat too short to assess the effect of such a desk on my back pain. But one thing is certain, at the end of the week my neck and cervical vertebrae are more relaxed ☺. I feel good, more productive. The alternation of positions stimulates my concentration! After all, if you stand, you don't think in the same way and new horizons open up. Mmm... Would we be more focused with our brains closer to the stars?
Score: 17/20
COOL:
Easy to use electric controls
Improves blood circulation
Enhances concentration
Prevents backache
NOT SO COOL:
The cables remain clearly visible, even with the cable duct.
When you stand up straight, you tend to wobble a bit and have a bad posture. The workplace should be supplemented with a seat that is suitable for standing.
