Stress spares no professional category and affects not only productivity but also the health of many employees at all levels. However, there is a solution for controlling your emotions and regaining your inner calm: sophrology. In addition to managing tension, sophrology is an effective tool for building self-confidence and overcoming shyness.
Relaxing through sophrology
Situated between relaxation, yoga and meditation, sophrology is a mind-body technique based on breathing. It offers the possibility of finding a harmonious balance between body and mind and becoming aware of one's full potential. Popular with top sportsmen and women, sophrology is now being used in companies. To enable them to better manage their stress and control negative emotions, regular sessions, led by sophrologists, are commonly offered to employees of certain companies. Whether it is to improve group cohesion, optimise team performance or manage conflicts, its fields of action cover many professional problems. Nowadays, sophrology exercises enrich the daily life of employees, with significant benefits.
Effective anti-stress sessions
A sophrology exercise is usually practised sitting on a chair, with the feet on the ground and the back straight, to increase awareness of your whole body and to reduce body tension. Close your eyes, breathe in and out very deeply, like a deep sigh from a child. Quiet abdominal breathing, simply asking yourself what you need at that moment (softness, calmness, peace ...), will conclude the session.
Release neuromuscular tension
This exercise combines breathing and visualisation to enable you to free yourself of all your fears, pains and negative emotions. Imagine that you have a large empty bag in each hand, and then, as you take a deep breath and raise your shoulders, mentally fill the bag with all your stress. Then, holding your breath and breathing deeply, release the pressure and open your fists sharply to drop the bags with all the tension they contain. Keep your eyes closed for a few moments to enjoy the feeling.
Relax your whole body
This other relaxation exercise can also be practised in the office, where - and this is essential in sophrology - you only think about the present moment. Breathe deeply, cross your arms behind your neck and lift both legs. Look up at the sky, hold the air in your lungs for a few moments, then breathe out slowly, relax and return to your starting position. With your eyes closed, breathe in gently to welcome and experience the feeling of peace and relaxation that overwhelms you. At the same time, visualise a landscape you are enjoying ... You are elsewhere and at the same time you are reconnecting with yourself.
Intended in particular for professionals who have to speak in public, exercises as varied as they are beneficial can be carried out by sophrologists working directly within the company.
