The solid rubber makes the roller perfect for spreading printing ink for linoleum prints, etc. Roll thick printing ink on an empty painting tray into a thin, even layer, then roll the ink onto a sculpted linoleum or rubber printing plate. Roll back and forth in different directions from one edge to the other of the printing plate. Place the paper to be printed on the printing plate, then a piece of protective paper or cardboard on top. If you don't have a graphic press, the roller can be used as a good alternative for smaller images. Roll back and forth with the linocut roller on the protective paper. Change direction and roll from one edge to the other of the printing plate underneath until the ink is evenly distributed. Remove the protective paper, lift the printing paper from the printing plate, and let it dry. Clean the roller in warm water and dry it with a paper towel or cloth. The advantage of using a solid rubber roller instead of a foam roller is that the slightly sticky printing ink lays down in a thick, even layer on the roller, while a foam roller absorbs some of the ink. So, if you want a uniform and perfectly printed image, we recommend using a solid rubber roller.
